On May 31, 2025, the Kenya Signal Company 3 (KENSIG 3) visited the Orphelinat Mama Olive Lembe Children’s Home in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The visit was part of Civil Military Cooperation initiative aimed at supporting and bringing smiles to the children at the orphanage.
The Children’s Home provides care for children who have been orphaned or are in vulnerable situations due to various socio-economic challenges and the ongoing conflict in the region.
Led by Officer Commanding (OC), Major Stephen Otieno, the team donated a range of essential items, including foodstuffs, sanitary supplies, cleaning materials, and other utilities to support both the children and staff at the orphanage.
During the visit, the soldiers spent quality time with the children – playing games, preparing snacks, and engaging in songs and dances.
Speaking during the visit, Major Otieno encouraged the children to work hard in order to succeed, emphasizing that their background does not define their future.
“Have hope in God and put a lot of effort into your education,” he told them. Education is the unifying factor that can open doors for anyone, regardless of their circumstances,” he said.
He also thanked the orphanage for its good neighbourliness and ongoing cooperation, acknowledging the positive relationship between the institution and Kenyan troops over time.
While receiving the donations, the orphanage director, Madame Navisa, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the troops for their act of kindness. She emphasized the significance of the support, especially to the vulnerable children under their care.
“God’s greatest work is to care for and uplift those in need, and this donation is a true sign of compassion. May God bless KENSIG Coy 3 for this good gesture.”
She further noted that such gestures not only provide material support but also inspire hope and reaffirm the value of community and kindness.
