KENYAN TROOPS IN DRC LAUDED FOR PROFESSIONALISM, COMMITMENT TO DUTY

Kenyan troops serving under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) today received commendation from the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Personnel, Evaluation and Training at the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB), Colonel Sebastian Arhin.

During a familiarisation visit to the Kenyan contingent stationed at their Camp Lieutenant Masulia in Mavivi, North Kivu, Col Arhin who was accompanied by Senior MONUSCO Officers, commended the soldiers for preserving a longstanding history of excellence by KDF peacekeepers.

“I am deeply impressed by the level of professionalism, discipline, and commitment all of you continue to display. Your contribution to the peace and stability efforts in eastern DRC is not only commendable but critical to the success of MONUSCO’s mandate,” said Colonel Arhin.

Col Arhin recounted his past experience serving as a Junior Officer in the then United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) under Kenyan Force Commander, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Daniel Opande, whom he said, “exemplified an outstanding picture of professionalism that he continues to see in Kenyan peacekeepers in DRC today.”

The visit included an inspection of operational readiness, ongoing training programs, and an assessment of troop welfare. Colonel Arhin and his entourage were briefed by the Kenyan contingent’s leadership on recent achievements, challenges, and the status of engagements within the area of operation.

In his remarks as he wrapped up a tour of the camp, the KENQRF Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Simon Seda expressed gratitude to MONUSCO through FIB for the continuous support extended to the Contingent as they work tirelessly towards Protection of Civilians.

“As KENQRF, we will continue to do our best, working hand in hand with our fellow Troop Contributing Countries, Local Security Forces as well as the citizenry of the DRC in the collective pursuit of peace,” he said.

Kenya is one of the key troop-contributing countries to MONUSCO’s Force Intervention Brigade, which plays a proactive role in neutralizing armed groups threatening civilians in the eastern DRC.

The recognition by the FIB’s Senior Officer comes at a time when regional and international efforts to stabilize the DRC remain crucial, amid ongoing insecurity fuelled by illegal armed groups.
