Kenya Defence Forces Troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni(OAB) at Hulugho Forward Operating Base (FOB) convened a Key Leader Engagement (KLE) aimed at strengthening collaboration between security forces and local leadership on 21 May 2025.
In his opening remarks, Major Mohammed of KDF expressed appreciation for the participants’ presence and their continued support in fostering peace and security in the region.
Community leaders shared updates on the security situation within their areas, with most reports indicating a stable and calm environment. However, discussions extended beyond security as the elders highlighted the poor state of roads as a significant concern, urging local authorities to prioritize infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility and emergency response. They also expressed worry over the community’s heavy dependence on the Hulugho Dam, particularly during the dry season, and recommended the construction of additional water pans to relieve pressure on the dam and ensure sustainable water access.
The engagement served to reaffirm the strong, mutual commitment of all involved stakeholders, including community leaders, security agencies to work in close collaboration towards addressing the multifaceted security concerns and pressing developmental challenges facing the Hulugho area. The discussions emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation, resource sharing, and inclusive decision-making to foster long-term stability, social cohesion, and socio-economic growth in the region.
The meeting brought together diverse groups of stakeholders, including the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mr. Julius Munene, the Team Leader of the Special Operations Group (TL SOG), local administration led by Sub-Chief Abdifatah Gani of Boma Sub-location and Mohamed Tube of Jilomata Sub-location, respected elders, and opinion leaders from across the wider Hulugho area.
