KMA AND 3KR JOINT TREE PLANTING EXERCISE

The Kenya Military Academy (KMA) in conjunction with the 3 Kenya Rifles took part in a tree planting exercise that was led by Major Chepkwony at Ngamia Hill Forest in Kericho County.

The team which consisted of 3 officers, 150 service personnel, Kenya Forest service team, community Forest association members drawn from Kiplongon Junior Secondary, Joylans Academy,  Benditai Primary School and members of the neighbouring  community planted 40,000 trees.  The trees were derived from assorted indigenous species which included Nandi Flame, red cedar, Dombeya torrida, olea africana, croton and markamia lutea.

Both the KMA and the 3 KR are planning to plant more trees at the same venue. This initiative is in line with the KDF’s Environmental Soldier Programme which aims to incorporate soldiers at the forefront of environmental security initiatives like tree planting. Further, it’s in line with the President’s directive of planting at least 15 billion trees by 2032.
