MILITARY ORDINARIATE OF KENYA MARKS ASH WEDNESDAY AT DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

The Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Wallace Ng’ang’a, today led the Catholic faithful in marking the beginning of the Lent season during a solemn Ash Wednesday Mass held in St Peter and Paul Cathedral Church at Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.

In his homily, Bishop Ng’ang’a underscored the three pillars of Lent; Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving, urging the congregation to embrace the season as a sacred time of repentance, sacrifice, and deeper communion with God.

“These forty days prepare us to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Ash Wednesday reminds us of the complementarity of the individual and the community in our relationship with God,” he said.

The Bishop also officially launched this year’s Lent Campaign themed, “Build a Just, Peaceful and United Kenya: Upholding Equity and Human Dignity.” The campaign seeks to raise public awareness on pressing societal challenges and advocate for justice, equity, and the protection of human dignity across the nation.

Notably, this year marks a historic moment, as for the first time in more than three decades, Christians and Muslims around the world will simultaneously observe a season of prayer, fasting, and consecration, reflecting a shared commitment to faith, discipline, and spiritual renewal.

The Ash Wednesday observance reaffirms the vital role of faith in strengthening unity, moral responsibility, and service within the military community and the country at large.
