MINISTRY OF DEFENCE RECOGNISED AS TOP PERFORMING PUBLIC SECTOR INSTITUTION

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been recognised as one of the country’s best performing public institutions after winning four major national awards for excellence in financial reporting, accountability, and public sector leadership. These awards positions the Ministry as a leading example of integrity, professionalism, and efficient resource management within the government.

At the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, the Ministry was declared the overall winner in the Public Sector Category and the Top Performer among all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) a testament to its adherence to financial reporting standards, transparency obligations and good governance practices.

MoD also received two additional awards from the Office of the Head of Public Service, the Unmodified Audit Opinion Award and the Leadership in Driving the Public Service Transformation Agenda 2025. These distinctions highlight the Ministry’s consistent clean audit record and its crucial role in advancing national programmes and county level development initiatives under the Government’s transformation agenda.

The awards were officially presented to Defence Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Soipan Tuya, during a ceremony held today at Defence Headquarters (DHQ). The presentation was made by the Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Patrick Mariru, in the presence of senior Ministry officials and Heads of Departments.

CS Tuya lauded the accomplishment, attributing the recognition to the professionalism and discipline that define the Ministry’s operations.

“These awards affirm the Ministry of Defence’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and responsible stewardship of public resources,” she said. “Our civilian and uniformed teams continue to demonstrate the highest standards of public service.”

PS Mariru commended staff across the Ministry for their collective effort in upholding strong governance systems.

“This is a Ministry wide achievement,” he stated. “Our teams have successfully navigated complex public sector demands while steering critical government projects. I applaud the entire MoD fraternity for maintaining exemplary standards in all areas of service.”

The Ministry’s exceptional performance this year reaffirms its place as a model public institution and strengthens the foundation for continued accountability, efficiency, and excellence in service to the nation.
