Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Soipan Tuya, alongside Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Patrick Mariru, held a consultative engagement with Laikipia County leadership at Defence Headquarters (DHQ). The meeting brought together area Members of Parliament Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri (Laikipia East), Hon. Sarah Korere (Laikipia North), Hon. Wachira Karani (Laikipia West), and Hon. Jane Kagiri (Laikipia Woman Representative) to deliberate on the proposed construction of Nanyuki Stadium.
The project envisions a modern 10,000-seater facility fitted with a canopy, changing rooms, sports equipment stores, and a standard football pitch. Once complete, the stadium is expected to significantly enhance sports infrastructure in the region, nurture local talent, and create meaningful opportunities for youth empowerment across the county.
In a separate meeting, Dr. Mariru consulted with the Governor of Kitui County, H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, and his team on the proposed construction of the Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital in Mutitu, Kitui County, in honour of the late Nzamba Kitonga. The planned specialised hospital block will have a 75-bed capacity and will comprise outpatient services, laboratory and pharmaceutical units, isolation wards, paediatric wards, dedicated male and female wards, as well as essential support services. The Ministry of Defence (MoD), through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), will supervise the construction works, with implementation set to commence soon.
Subsequently, the PS held discussions with a delegation from the Busia County Government led by Governor H.E. Dr. Paul Otuoma regarding the proposed construction of Busia Stadium. As with the other projects, the MoD, through KDF, will oversee and supervise the works. Construction is set to commence immediately, with completion projected within nine months.
The engagements underscore the Ministry’s continued commitment to partnering with county governments in delivering transformative infrastructure projects that promote social development, strengthen community resilience, and contribute to national progress.
