In line with the Government’s commitment to equitable development and quality service delivery, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) continues to play a central role in advancing Kenya’s national development agenda through the implementation of key infrastructure projects across the country.
To this end, Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Soipan Tuya held two high-level consultative meetings at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the delivery of transformative projects in Nyamira and Nakuru counties.
This week CS Tuya met separately with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba, and the Governor of Nakuru County, Hon. Susan Kihika.
The engagement with the Ministry of Education focused on reviewing plans for the establishment of Nyamira University College, a constituent college of Kisii University. The construction of the 800 student-capacity institution to be hosted at Kiabonyoru High School in Nyamira County will be supervised and overseen by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). Once complete, the college is expected to significantly expand access to affordable, quality higher education in the region.
Discussions with the Nakuru County leadership centred on assessing the progress of three flagship projects: the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital Trauma Centre, Afraha Stadium, and Olenguruone Stadium. These projects, being implemented in partnership between KDF and the County Government, aim to bolster healthcare delivery and promote socio-economic development.
The two stadiums are undergoing major upgrades to increase their seating capacity and position them as regional hubs for talent development, job creation, and economic growth. Meanwhile, the Trauma Centre project is expected to greatly improve access to emergency and specialist healthcare services for residents of Nakuru and the surrounding counties.
CS Tuya was accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence. The Education delegation included Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Ogechi and senior Ministry of Education officials, while Governor Kihika was joined by senior officials from the County Government of Nakuru.
The meetings reaffirm the government’s shared commitment to delivering transformative national infrastructure. The Ministry of Defence remains steadfast in its mission to actualize these development projects within budget and on schedule, furthering Kenya’s vision for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
