On 23 January 2026, Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) Multi-Agency team convened a consultative meeting at Chemolingot to deliberate on the prevailing security situation in the region and assess the progress made in restoring stability. The meeting was chaired by the County Commissioner Baringo County, Stephen Kutwa Sangolo.
During the engagement, the County Commissioner lauded the security agencies for their relentless efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region. He further commended KDF for their unwavering support for development initiatives, including the construction of schools and roads, which have contributed to improving livelihoods and strengthening cooperation with local communities.
The region has remained relatively calm, with only a few isolated cases of livestock theft, land and border disputes, and cattle rustling recorded in recent months. These developments are evidence of the positive impact of coordinated security operations and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
The Commanding Officer, Lt Col Sum of KDF, representing Comd OMU, Brig Alex Kiraguri emphasized the importance of continued cooperation, intelligence sharing, and sustained community engagement as key pillars in maintaining stability and preventing the resurgence of insecurity. He noted that strong partnerships between security agencies and local communities remain essential in building trust, enhancing early warning mechanisms, and ensuring that peace and safety are preserved across the region for the long term.
The meeting provided a platform for detailed discussions on current security challenges, emerging threats, and the way forward in sustaining the gains made.
The consultative forum brought together representatives from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), County Government, National Police Service (NPS), National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and National Intelligence Service (NIS) reaffirming a unified commitment to maintaining Peace, Security and Stability in the North Rift.
