Multi-agency troops under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) Headquarters in Chemolingot took part in an 18-kilometre walk aimed at building camaraderie among security personnel and deepening community relations in the region. The peace walk, which brought together officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Administration Police, and National Intelligence Service traversed several villages in Tiaty West, Baringo County.
Led by Maj Cyrus Kakai, the troops used the opportunity not only to test their endurance and reinforce inter-agency cohesion, but also to engage local residents, spread peace messages, and build trust through visibility and interaction.
Speaking on behalf of the Commander OMU, Brigadier Joel Arimi, Maj Kakai said, “This walk is about more than just fitness it is about unity of purpose. When the community sees us walking side by side, they see one mission: peace and progress.”
He added, “We are here to listen, to learn, and to walk with the people, literally and figuratively, towards lasting security.”
In addition to the walk, the day featured friendly football and volleyball matches between OMU personnel and local youth. The spirited competitions drew crowds from surrounding villages, creating a relaxed and joyful environment where community members and security forces could interact informally, laugh together, and strengthen bonds beyond the uniform.
Throughout the day, officers took time to engage with elders, women, and youth, assuring them of the government’s commitment to securing the region and encouraging peaceful co-existence among neighbouring communities.
Operation Maliza Uhalifu is a multi-agency effort focused on flushing out criminal elements, recovering illegal arms, and stabilizing areas historically affected by banditry and cattle rustling in the North Rift region.
The peace walk and sports activities served as a reminder that long-term success depends not only on tactical operations, but also on building mutual respect and collaboration with the communities served.
