NATIONAL DEFENCE UNIVERSITY-KENYA (NDU-K) HOSTS SUCCESSFUL 2ND GOLF TOURNAMENT

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) held the 2nd edition of its annual Golf Tournament at the Nakuru Golf Club (NGC), drawing an impressive field of 238 golfers. The tournament, which has quickly become a flagship event in the University’s wellness program, promotes physical fitness, mental well-being, and camaraderie between military and civilian participants.

The Vice-Chancellor of NDU-K, Lieutenant General David Tarus, graced the occasion, actively took part in the tournament. Male and female golfers competed in diverse categories, including longest drive, nearest to the pin, and guest winner. Special categories also recognized winners among Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA) officers, veterans, seniors, and junior golfers. Victors in all categories received prizes celebrating their achievements.

Speaking during the awards ceremony, Lt Gen Tarus thanked the participants for their passion and commitment, noting that such events strengthen bonds of friendship, nurture sportsmanship, and reinforce collaboration between the military and civilian communities. He also expressed gratitude to the hosts, sponsors, and partners for their continued support, calling on them to sustain their partnership with NDU-K in advancing sports and broader development initiatives.

On his part, the Chairperson NGC, Mr. Erick Nderitu lauded the University management for choosing their club to host the tournament stating that the existing partnership with the University and the club is a clear indication that good things can happen when agencies come together for a noble cause. He further reiterated the additional need for the University and NGC to collaborate in projects that will benefit communities in the Nakuru region.

Brigadier Victor Kang’ethe, Chairperson of the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA), commended the large turnout and spirit of the players, stressing that the event not only showcased golfing talent but also offered valuable networking opportunities. He reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to promoting sports as a means of strengthening unity and esprit de corps among service members and civilians alike.

With its strong turnout and success, the annual NDU-K Golf Tournament continues to stand out as a platform for promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, and unity, while building lasting connections that bridge Kenya’s military and civilian golfing fraternity.
