A delegation from National Defence College (NDC) led by the college Deputy Commandant Major General Stephen Mutuku on 17 May 2025, visited The Little Sisters of the Poor (Nyumba ya Wazee) in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The visit is part of a broader initiative by the Kenya Defence Forces to give back to the community, especially the less fortunate in the society.
The delegation was received by Sister Teresita Davis; one of the sisters serving at the facility who gave them an extensive tour of the facility and its operations.
Maj. Gen. Mutuku expressed his gratitude to the facility for welcoming the delegation from NDC. “We are thankful for the opportunity to visit this remarkable facility,” he said. “The work you do to care for the elderly is not only commendable but deeply inspiring.” As the delegation toured the centre, they took time to speak with caregivers and residents alike, emphasizing how important such initiatives are in preserving dignity and compassion within the community.
The delegation donated food supplies to the facility, supporting its ongoing efforts to care for the elderly. Sister Davis expressed her appreciation for the gesture, thanking the delegation for their thoughtfulness and generosity.
Established in 1985, the Little Sisters of the Poor (Nyumba ya Wazee) manages two homes located in Nairobi and Mombasa, offering a safe haven for the elderly. Their operations are sustained through generous contributions from individuals, organizations and well-wishers.
