OILS OF GRACE, HEARTS OF SERVICE

OILS OF GRACE, HEARTS OF SERVICE

In the solemn journey of Holy Week, the Military Ordinariate of Kenya gathered at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, for one of the Church’s most profound and symbolic celebrations, the Chrism Mass.

The liturgy was presided over by the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, bringing together clergy and faithful in a powerful expression of unity and shared mission. The celebration underscored the enduring bond between shepherd and flock, and the communion among priests within the Ordinariate.

During the Mass, priests renewed their sacred promises, reaffirming their commitment to serve with faithfulness, humility, and love. The moment stood as both a personal recommitment and a public witness, reflecting the lifelong calling of priestly service.

In his homily, Bishop Ng’ang’a reminded the clergy of their divine mandate, to proclaim the Gospel and offer hope, especially in times of challenge and uncertainty. He urged them to remain steadfast in their vocation and to draw strength from the Word of God. The faithful were also encouraged to continually pray for their priests, supporting them in their mission with love and devotion.

The highlight of the celebration was the blessing of the Holy Oils; the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism. These sacred oils will be used throughout the year in the administration of sacraments of healing, initiation, and consecration within the life of the Church.

The Chrism Mass is celebrated as a declaration of unity and a renewal of purpose, reflecting the living presence of the Church among its people. As the faithful look ahead to the joy of Easter, the mass served as a powerful reminder that through unity, service, and devotion, the mission of Christ continues to shine in the world today.
