Defence Principal Secretary (PS), Dr. Patrick Mariru alongside his Sports counterpart, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, today co-chaired the first Sports Steering Committee meeting of the year at Talanta Sports City Stadium Office to review construction progress of the Stadium. The high-level consultative session brought together key government stakeholders to assess milestones achieved and align on the next phase of implementation for the flagship national project.
The Stadium continues to underscore the Government’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent, strengthening national cohesion, expanding modern sports infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Kenya as a competitive hub for regional and international sporting events. Upon completion, the facility is expected to significantly enhance Kenya’s sporting profile on the global stage.
The Steering Committee noted that construction has reached 80 per cent completion, with works progressing steadily. The stadium is projected to be completed by March 2026, ahead of the scheduled inspection by CAF officials, ensuring readiness in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo, and Principal Secretary, Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, Chief of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, among other senior officials. The Government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the project on time and to the highest standards.
