The Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, has undertaken a series of site visits to Murang’a, Meru, and Nyeri counties to assess the progress of ongoing strategic projects being implemented by the Ministry of Defence. These visits are part of a concerted government effort to deliver on national development priorities within the stipulated timelines, as directed by the President H.E Dr. William Ruto.

In Murang’a County, the PS conducted a ground-breaking ceremony of an extension block at the Kenneth Matiba Hospital and Trauma Centre. The modern multi-storey facility is expected to enhance the capacity and service delivery of the hospital. Once complete, the new Trauma Centre will boost the hospital’s bed capacity from 20 to 100, significantly improving its ability to provide critical and emergency care.

The expansion features a dedicated trauma unit, a minor procedures centre, inpatient wards, a pharmacy, and various support facilities. The development will elevate the hospital to a Level 4B healthcare institution, enabling it to offer advanced medical services. This facility forms a key component of the Medicity Complex within the Special Economic Zone, where 75 acres have been allocated for medical infrastructure. Construction of the trauma block is expected to be completed within six months.

In Meru County, the PS toured the site of a state of the art, five storey hospital block with a capacity of 277 beds. The facility, which is being constructed under the Ministry’s supervision, is expected to significantly enhance access to quality health services for residents of the region and surrounding areas.
