PS DEFENCE LAUNCHES CONSTRUCTION OF 10,000 SEATER KABARNET STADIUM

Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, accompanied by his counterpart from the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the 10,000-seater Kabarnet Stadium in Baringo County.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the Government’s efforts to expand modern sports infrastructure and promote sports development across the country. The Kabarnet Stadium is designed to host football, athletics, and other sporting activities, and will serve as a key facility for nurturing talent and supporting competitive sports in the region.

The project is being implemented as a multi-agency initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and the County Government of Baringo, with the Ministry of Defence providing technical expertise to ensure quality standards and timely delivery.

Upon completion, the stadium is expected to create employment opportunities, nurture local talent, and stimulate socio-economic growth within Kabarnet and the wider Baringo County.

The event was hosted by Baringo County Governor, H.E. Benjamin Cheboi, and was attended by the County Woman Representative, Hon. Flowrence Jematia, the Area Member of Parliament for Baringo Central, Hon. Joshua Kandie, and other county and local leaders.

The Kabarnet Stadium project underscores the Government’s continued commitment to empowering the youth through sport, strengthening national cohesion, and investing in transformative infrastructure that delivers lasting benefits to communities.
