Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, today, presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the new Sogoo Level 4 Hospital in Narok County.
The facility will add 60 new beds to the existing 40, bringing the total capacity to 100 beds. It will further provide critical services, including a trauma centre, surgical theatres, critical care wards, outpatient services, and medical laboratories, among others. Once completed, the hospital is expected to ease pressure on regional facilities and serve residents of Narok South and neighbouring areas.
The construction of the hospital is also expected to positively impact the community by creating jobs, boosting local economic activity, and improving the overall quality of life for residents and its environs.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the CS, Dr. Mariru underscored that the new hospital will be a beacon of health and wellness, offering world-class medical facilities, cutting-edge technology, and compassionate care to the people of Narok. He noted that such services would otherwise only be accessed at Narok Level 5 Hospital or Tenwek Mission Hospital.
He further expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), H.E. Dr. William Ruto, for his vision of universal healthcare for all citizens, and to all stakeholders for their dedication and tireless efforts in making the project a reality.
The project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the KDF, the Ministry of Health, and the County Government of Narok under the leadership of Governor H.E. Patrick Ole Ntutu. It stands as a clear demonstration of inter-agency commitment to delivering on the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The ceremony was attended by county leaders, including H.E. Patrick Ole Ntutu (Governor, Narok County), H.E. Tamalinye Koech (Deputy Governor, Narok County), Hon. Kitilai Ole Ntutu (MP, Narok South), Hon. Johana Ng’eno (MP, Emurua Dikirr), among other local leaders.
