His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces, officially opened the 2025 Mombasa International Show at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground in Mombasa County.
During the event, the Commander-in-Chief inspected a guard of honor mounted by the Kenya Navy.
Organized annually by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), the show is a premier national platform for showcasing innovations, technologies, and investment opportunities across Kenya’s agriculture, trade and industrial sectors. This year’s theme, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” highlights the vital role of sustainable farming, environmental conservation and regional trade in ensuring national food security and economic resilience.
In his keynote address, President Ruto commended farmers, exhibitors and stakeholders for their unwavering contributions to Kenya’s agricultural transformation and economic development. He emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture through mechanization, irrigation, value addition and youth empowerment.
“Agriculture is not just a sector in Kenya, it is the lifeline of millions of households, the foundation of our food security and a key driver of industrial growth. Today, I commend all our farmers, both in crop production and livestock keeping, for their dedication despite the challenges they face. We are aware that unpredictable rainfall patterns have significantly affected planting cycles, harvests and overall farm productivity. The government is addressing these challenges by investing in irrigation infrastructure, promoting climate smart agriculture and providing timely weather information to farmers,” said the President.
The President acknowledged that the recent decline in the prices of food commodities has adversely affected farmers’ income. To cushion farmers, he noted that the government is working closely with stakeholders to ensure fair markets, reduce post-harvest losses and promote value addition to maximize returns for farmers.
Present during the occasion was Speaker of the Senate, Hon. Amason Kingi, Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, Governor Mombasa County, H.E. Hon. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, senior government and military officers and citizenry.
