Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda chaired the 17th Board Meeting of the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) in Mombasa, bringing together members of the Board to deliberate on the strategic direction and operational progress of the Shipyards in line with national defence and industrial priorities.
The meeting focused on KSL’s role as a critical national asset in strengthening Kenya’s maritime capability, enhancing local industrial capacity, and supporting the Government’s agenda on defence modernization and economic growth. Board members reviewed progress on ongoing programmes, assessed key milestones achieved, and discussed strategies aimed at improving efficiency, expanding capacity, and positioning the Shipyards as a regional hub for shipbuilding, repair, and maritime industrial development.
After the meeting, Board members were taken on a guided tour of the Kenya Shipyards Limited facilities, where they inspected ongoing works and received briefings on current and upcoming projects. The tour provided an opportunity for members to appreciate progress made on the ground and to reaffirm the Board’s commitment to supporting the continued growth and modernization of the Shipyards.
Those present at the meeting included Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, Army Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, KSL Managing Director Major General Mohammed Farah, and Director, National Security Industries (DNSI), Major General Faustino Lobaly. Independent Directors in attendance were Hon. Millicent Omanga, Ms. Maryanna Karanja, Mr. Simon Mwachia, among others.
