VCDF LEADS 70TH KOFC BOARD MEETING

The Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation (KOFC) held its 70th Board of Directors Meeting on 14–15 August 2025 at its headquarters in Eldoret, with Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General John Omenda presiding as chief guest.

The session brought together senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) leadership, including Commander Kenya Army Lt Gen David Ketter, Commander Kenya Air Force Maj Gen Barnard Waliaula, Commander Kenya Navy Maj Gen Paul Otieno, and Director Defence National Security Industries (DNSI) Maj Gen Faustino Lobaly. Their attendance underscored the close collaboration between KOFC and all KDF services in strengthening the nation’s defence manufacturing capabilities.

Lt Gen Omenda commended KOFC Managing Director Maj Gen George Okumu and his team for their dedication to producing high-quality small arms ammunition and other defence products critical to national security. He further praised the corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes for supporting community development, creating jobs, and boosting the regional economy.

During his visit to Eldoret, the VCDF also toured the 9th Battalion Kenya Rifles, where he inspected ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and troop welfare ahead of the upcoming KDF Day celebrations. He later visited the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS), under Commandant Brig M. Kimondiu, where he reviewed upgraded facilities including recruits’ accommodation and a modern mess hall, expressing satisfaction with the improved welfare standards.

The 70th Board Meeting reviewed KOFC’s recent milestones and strategic roadmap, reaffirming its pivotal role in enhancing Kenya’s defence self-reliance. The presence of senior KDF leadership highlighted a shared commitment to advancing innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in defence production.
