VISITING A DISTINGUISHED MILITARY VETERAN

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Directorate of Military Veterans and Serving personnel from 75 Artillery Battalion on Sunday, 1st June 2025 paid a visit to Retired Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Eresmas Mwenga Kitali, at his home in Kangii, Kitui West in Kitui County.

The visit led by Brigadier (Rtd) Isaac Muchendu was intended to honour and celebrate WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga’s long, illustrious military career and service to country, as well as spread cheer and kindness to him and his family.

In his remarks Brigadier (Rtd) Muchendu hailed WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga as a galant service man, expert Artillery instructor and FIRM disciplinarian, whose deeds inspire and motivate both retired and serving personnel. He noted that the KDF Veterans Directorate in conjunction with county veteran forums would continue to undertake such initiatives, an indicator of KDF retirees’ welfare prioritisation.

These remarks were echoed by 75 Artillery Battalion Acting Commanding Officer Major Victor Ombaba, who noted that WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga undertook his duty with utmost commitment and courage, embodying the spirit of service and patriotism.

WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga was grateful to the team for honouring him, as he narrated in nostalgia of his military career path and experience, particularly at 75 Artillery.

WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga’s career spanned between 1965 to 2002, where he performed a variety of roles at 3rd Battalion Kenya Rifles (3KR), Artillery Brigade, School of Artillery and most notably as the longest ever serving Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at 75 Artillery Battalion. During his service, he consistently upheld highest values of duty, earning respect and admiration from superiors, peers and juniors alike.

Among the visitors were Senior Retired Officers, Officers and Service personnel from Kitui and Artillery Brigade Veterans forums, Serving Officers and Service personnel, family members, friends of WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga and local administration representatives.
