The Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ministry of Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya today officiated the ground breaking ceremony for the Kenya Defence Forces Affordable Housing project (AHP) at Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi.
In her remarks, CS Tuya expressed her gratitude to the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, His Excellency, Dr William Ruto for inclusion of KDF and other security agencies into the Affordable Housing Programme under the Institutional Housing Plan.
Further, she stated that the KDF Affordable Housing Programme is a pioneer institutional program which reinforces the promise of decent housing to all; particularly those who serve the country with honour and distinction at the front lines.
“The Affordable Housing Program not only benefits the soldiers and their families; it also aims at creating employment opportunities to our citizens; thus spurring economic growth.” she said.
CS for Lands, Public Works Housing and Urban Development, Hon Alice Wahome stated that this auspicious occasion is a bold and deliberate step to honour our service personnel through investment in decent and dignified housing.
The Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen John Omenda who spoke on behalf of the CDF stated that housing is critical in enhancing the operational effectiveness and overall wellbeing of a soldier.
“We firmly believe that a soldier who is assured of stable and dignified housing for their family is in a better position to execute their duties. The programme will boost our soldiers’ morale and improve their operational readiness.” he said.
The General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Lucas Kutto noted that the event is a testimony of the government’s steadfast commitment to improve the welfare and the wellbeing of the military members.
In attendance was the Principal Secretary of MOD, Dr Patrick Mariru, Commander Kenya Army, Lt Gen David Tarus, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel &Logistics, Major Gen David Ketter, National Director of Housing, Mr James Maina, Senior Officers, Officers, and Service Members.
