Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed at Beles Qoqani Tactical Operating Base, and serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) conducted a day-long free Medical Camp (MEDICAP) and thereafter, a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) session at Beles Qoqani township.
The MEDICAP outreach, saw KDF medical personnel attend to over 80 members of the local community, treating ailments such as colds among children and the aged, urinary tract infections, and peptic ulcer disease. The high turnout reflects the community’s growing trust and confidence in AUSSOM-KDF troops stationed in the region.
To further foster relations, the troops held a KLE session with elders and leaders from the local authorities. Discussions focused on improving coordination in ensuring security and elevating the livelihoods of the locals.
The day culminated in a gesture of goodwill as the troops donated learning materials to Beles Qoqani Madrasa pupils. Items included exercise books, pens, and chalks. The donation brought smiles and gratitude from the teachers and the young learners.
Such outreach programs are part of AUSSOM’s ongoing humanitarian support efforts to help Somali communities access basic needs, and contribute to Somalia’s stability- besides executing security operations.
