DNSI DIRECTOR GENERAL UNDERTAKES FAMILIARIZATION TOUR OF GILGIL FACTORIES

The Director General of Defence National Security Industries (DNSI), Major General Faustino Lobaly, earlier this week visited the Defence Food Production and Processing Factory (DFPPF) in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

He was received and guided on the tour by the DFPPF Managing Director, Brigadier Gilliard Kimonge. The visit provided Maj Gen Lobaly an opportunity to familiarize himself with the factory’s food production processes, which include vegetable dehydration, fruit processing, and ready-to-eat meal (RTE) production.

The delegation also toured the surrounding farm where DFPPF cultivates its own produce and supplements supplies through local farmers.

Vegetable dehydration involves processing crops such as potatoes, carrots, and onions to reduce bulk while preserving nutritional value. Fruit processing builds on this phase, while RTE production focuses on preparing nutritious meals for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and other security agencies.

The DFPPF, under the Ministry of Defence, is mandated to carry out crop and animal production, as well as the processing of high-quality, nutritious dehydrated vegetables. Its product range includes cabbages, kale, spinach, carrots, potatoes, onions, and mixed vegetables. These products serve the KDF, other security agencies, the general public, and are also exported to international markets.
