HONOURING A FALLEN HERO

HONOURING A FALLEN HERO

The Defence Headquarters Audit and Inspectorate Branch (Finance), together with colleagues from the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability (DOCA), on 22nd November 2025 joined the family of the late Senior Sergeant Michael Kamau in Kirere Location, Kaimiri Village, Murang’a County, to commemorate his second anniversary and witness the unveiling of his cross.

The event began with a service led by the presiding minister, Reverend Andrew Karanja, who encouraged the late Ssgt Kamau’s family, friends, and colleagues to emulate his humility. He noted that Ssgt Kamau was known for his modest character and warm relationship with the residents of his community.

Senior Sergeant Kamau enlisted in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in February 2006 and passed out in October the same year. He was posted to the 12th Engineering Battalion in Thika Barracks and later, in January 2007, joined the Clerical Training School.

He served diligently as a pay clerk in the 12th Engineering Battalion, 19 Kenya Rifles, and the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH). At the time of his passing, he was working as an auditor at the Department of Defence.

In 2015, Ssgt Kamau served under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). His dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to Senior Sergeant. He is fondly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, their three children as well as KDF comrades.
