The Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) conducted two Tactical Exercises Without Troops (TEWT) for participants of the Senior Joint Command and Staff Course (SJCSC) 41-2025/26 on 30 January 2026 and 6 February 2026 in the general area of Gicheru Ranges, Kajiado County.
The exercises were led by Major General Eric Kinuthia, Commandant of the Joint Command and Staff College, together with Brigadier David Chesire, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor, and supported by Heads of Departments and the College’s Directing Staff. The first TEWT (30 January 2026) focused on equipping student officers with the essential skills to correctly plan and conduct TEWT. The second TEWT (6 February 2026) centered on exercising the students in the planning and conduct of offensive operations at Division and Brigade levels within a realistic hybrid operating environment. Both exercises were deliberately set in a challenging and operationally authentic setting, providing participants with valuable hands on experience in analyzing complex scenarios and developing practical solutions to simulated operational problems.
As a core component of the Senior Joint Command and Staff Course curriculum, these TEWTs play a vital role in preparing mid-career officers for higher command and staff appointments, particularly in the areas of operational planning, training management and leadership in contemporary security environments.
During the post exercise debrief sessions, the Commandant and Deputy Commandant commended the student officers for their dedication, professionalism and grasp of the exercise objectives. They particularly highlighted the high quality of planning, coordination and execution demonstrated throughout both activities.
The Joint Command and Staff College remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering rigorous, practical and scenario based training that develops capable, adaptive and mission ready leaders equipped to address the complex and evolving demands of modern joint and combined security operations.
