Residents of Laresoro in Samburu County benefited from free animal healthcare services on 10 March 2026 following a successful Veterinary Medical Civic Action Program (VETCAP) conducted by veterinary officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the United States Armed Forces.
The outreach provided treatment and preventive care to livestock belonging to local residents. The event was attended by the United States Ambassador to Kenya, Mrs. Susan Burns, and the Exercise Director, Brigadier Anthony Rotich. The activity formed part of the Humanitarian Civic Assistance initiatives under Exercise Justified Accord 2026.
During the exercise, veterinary teams treated, vaccinated and dewormed more than 15,000 animals, including goats, dogs, camels, sheep and donkeys, against various livestock diseases. The initiative aimed to improve livestock health and productivity, which form a key source of livelihood for residents in the area.
Speaking during the event, the Exercise Director, Brigadier Anthony Rotich, noted that the outreach reflects the continued commitment of the Kenya Defence Forces and partner nations to strengthening civil–military cooperation while supporting community well-being.
He emphasised that healthy livestock are essential to the economic stability of many families in the region, noting that improved animal health contributes to food security, supports household incomes and helps families meet important needs such as education.
These sentiments were echoed by the United States Ambassador to Kenya, Mrs. Susan Burns, who commended the collaboration between KDF and partner forces in supporting local communities.
Residents from Laresoro and surrounding areas expressed appreciation for the services offered, noting that access to veterinary services in remote areas is often limited, making the outreach both timely and beneficial.
