Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Soipan Tuya held a consultative meeting at Defence Headquarters (DHQ) with H.E. Governor Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri County to review progress and discuss the implementation of key infrastructure projects in Nyeri County being undertaken under the supervision and management of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The meeting focused on the planned construction of a new 150 bed surgical block at Nyeri County Referral Hospital, progress of the ongoing works at Ruring’u Stadium, and the development of the 120 bed Mwai Kibaki Clinical Annex.
Hon. Tuya noted that the projects form part of the Ministry’s broader mandate of supporting national and county governments in the delivery of strategic public infrastructure through the technical expertise of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). Once completed, the health facilities will significantly strengthen access to specialized medical services in the region, while the stadium will provide a modern sporting facility to nurture talent, promote youth engagement, and support socio-economic development.
The CS reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to timely and high-quality delivery of the projects, emphasizing that the collaboration between the national government, county leadership, and the Kenya Defence Forces reflects a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens through impactful infrastructure development.
The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament Duncan Mathenge (Nyeri Town) and Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Nyeri County Government.
