JUSTIFIED ACCORD 2026: ENHANCING REGIONAL SECURITY AND COOPERATION

Military and security personnel from fifteen partner nations participated in the 5th edition of Justified Accord, a two-week multinational training programme conducted at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS), Embakasi and also in Karen with field exercises held in Isiolo. The exercise provided a platform for participating forces to enhance operational readiness, strengthen tactical proficiency, and improve multinational coordination.

Justified Accord 2026 is a joint multinational exercise organised by Kenya Defence Forces and United States Africa Command. The exercise aimed to strengthen interoperability among partner nations, prepare forces to address complex security challenges, and foster collaboration in peace support and crisis response operations.

The exercise was officially opened by the Chief of Training at Defence Headquarters, Brig Paul Koech, who emphasised the importance of operational readiness and multinational cooperation.

“This is not only an opportunity to test our operational capabilities, but also a chance to foster lasting relationships and build trust among us. Your participation underscores our shared commitment to security, preparedness and mutual support,” said Brigadier Koech.

The programme highlighted strong collaboration between the Kenya Defence Forces and the United States, enhancing interoperability and joint operational capability. Participants engaged in academic planning sessions, simulated operational environments and coordinated field exercises, strengthening communication and tactical cohesion among multinational partners.

Field exercises conducted in Isiolo focused on tactical skills, demolition procedures and the safe handling of unexploded ordnance. Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, were also incorporated into operational planning and decision-making processes.

Beyond military training, Justified Accord 2026 promoted socio-economic development through humanitarian civic assistance initiatives. Activities such as free animal healthcare services and a medical camp at the Larisoro Centre reinforced civil–military cooperation and strengthened trust between participating forces and local communities.

The exercise concluded with a formal closing ceremony led by the UK High Commission Chargé d’Affaires, Ms Susan Burns, who commended participants for their dedication and active engagement throughout the training.

“I sincerely thank all participants for their dedication and commitment throughout Justified Accord 2026. Your active engagement strengthens our partnerships, builds trust and reinforces our shared goal of regional security and stability,” she said.

The ceremony was also attended by senior leaders, including the Director of the International Peace Support Training Centre, Major General Charles Mwazighe, and the Deputy Commanding General of Southern European Task Force Africa, Richard Cipro.
