Kenyan and Tanzanian contingents serving under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) came together for joint Eid Al Fitr prayers at Kenya’s Lt Masulia Camp, marking the end of Ramadan with a display of unity and shared faith.
Sheikh Issa Hassan, Imam of Masjid Tawfiq Mosque in Mavivi, led the gathering of troops from Kenya’s 5th Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5) and Tanzania Quick Reaction Force (TANZQRF). The event celebrated the conclusion of a 30-day period of fasting and spiritual reflection.
In his sermon, Sheikh Hassan highlighted Eid Al Fitr as a time of gratitude, citing the Quranic verse: “Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship” (Qur’an 2:185). He praised the contingents for fostering brotherhood across national lines, noting that such unity reflects the values of patience and compassion cultivated during Ramadan.
For multinational contingents operating under MONUSCO, joint social and religious activities play a critical role in mission accomplishment. Shared moments of worship and fellowship build trust, cultural understanding and cohesion—essential elements for seamless coordination during joint patrols and rapid response operations in a complex peacekeeping environment.
The event concluded with warm exchanges among the troops, reinforcing the bonds between the two forces. By coming together in prayer, KENQRF 5 and TANZQRF demonstrated that unity in purpose and faith strengthens both the peacekeepers and the mission they serve.
