On Thursday 28 May 2026, The Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) Karen hosted Major General Bernard Waliaula, Commander of the Kenya Air Force, who delivered a lecture of opportunity to participants of the Senior Joint Command and Staff Course SJCSC 41-2025/26. Upon arrival at the College, Major General Waliaula was warmly received by Major General Eric Kinuthia, Commandant JCSC, alongside Brigadier David Chesire (Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor), and the College heads of departments.
In his lecture titled “The Future of Military Leadership in the Defence Forces,” Major General Waliaula emphasized the critical need for military leaders to be proactively prepared for a rapidly evolving and complex security landscape. He called for a deliberate shift from traditional leadership models to a new generation of strategic thinkers, ethical leaders and visionary planners capable of shaping policy and influencing outcomes.
“The character of war is changing faster than our ability to adapt, and therefore leaders must see around corners,” said Major General Waliaula.
He urged officers to cultivate a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, operational readiness and safety, while maintaining a forward looking approach to leadership in an increasingly dynamic operational environment.
The session concluded with an engaging interactive question and answer segment, during which participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the Commander.
