As regional security challenges continue to evolve, defence diplomacy and professional military engagements remain critical tools for fostering mutual understanding, strengthening strategic partnerships and enhancing collective security among partner nations. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continues to leverage academic exchanges and professional interactions to deepen military cooperation, promote the exchange of best practices and reinforce regional security collaboration.
In line with this commitment, the Kenya Defence Forces hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe National Defence College (ZNDC) at the Defence Headquarters. The delegation, led by Air Commodore Elisha Farai Masakdza, was received by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda.
The visit provided an important platform for defence diplomacy and strategic dialogue between the two institutions. During the engagement, the delegation received comprehensive briefings on Kenya’s national security architecture, the role of the Ministry of Defence and the KDF’s mandate in safeguarding national sovereignty while contributing to regional peace and stability. The discussions also highlighted Kenya’s approach to addressing emerging security challenges through integrated security frameworks, inter-agency cooperation and regional partnerships.
Such defence diplomacy engagements continue to strengthen the longstanding ties between Kenya and Zimbabwe while promoting mutual learning and professional collaboration among African defence institutions. Through sustained military-to-military interactions, the KDF remains committed to building enduring partnerships, enhancing interoperability while fostering a shared understanding of contemporary security challenges affecting the region.
The visit highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing regional peace, security and stability, while reaffirming the KDF’s role as a key contributor to cooperative security initiatives across Africa.
