FORGING REGIONAL SECURITY PARTNERSHIPS

As the contemporary security landscape continues to evolve in an increasingly interconnected and complex security environment, regional cooperation and strategic partnerships have become indispensable in addressing emerging threats and promoting sustainable peace.

Recognizing the value of professional military engagement and knowledge exchange, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) hosted a delegation of the Army War College Nigeria for a Geo-Strategic Study presentation aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing mutual understanding between Kenya and Nigeria.

A key highlight of the visit was a briefing on Kenya’s Perspective on National Security, Kenya Defence Forces in National and Regional Security and Kenya’s Defence Policy Framework, which provides strategic direction for safeguarding national interests while supporting regional stability.

The discussions further explored Kenya’s strategic approach to security, emphasizing a whole of government framework that integrates defence capabilities, intelligence, inter-agency coordination and regional partnerships to address evolving security challenges. The engagement emphasized the growing defence and security cooperation between Kenya and Nigeria through professional military education, training exchanges and collaboration on regional peace and security initiatives.

Speaking during the engagement, Chief of Training Development Establishment and Equipment Tables ( TDE& ETs) at the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Paul Koech, highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration among African nations in addressing shared security concerns noting such engagements strengthen professional networks, foster innovation and contribute to collective efforts aimed at enhancing regional stability.

The Nigerian delegation, led by Director of Coordination, Brigadier General B. U. Ogbuji, expressed appreciation for the insights gained during the programme and reaffirmed the commitment to continued cooperation and knowledge sharing between Kenya and Nigeria.
