Physical fitness is a defining element of military effectiveness, equipping service personnel with the endurance, discipline and resilience required to meet the demands of modern operations. Competitive sport strengthens these qualities while cultivating teamwork, mental toughness and the pursuit of excellence that underpin operational readiness. Across the Kenya Air Force (KAF), sporting achievement continues to complement professional military development by inspiring personnel to strive for higher standards both in service and in competition.
The Kenya Air Force celebrated this spirit of excellence when Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, received trophies won by the KAF Cycling Team following their exceptional performance during the Kenya Defence Forces-sponsored Ride With The Warriors Race (Second Series) held on Sunday, 5 July 2026, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata. The trophies were formally presented during a ceremony at Headquarters Kenya Air Force on Monday, 6 July 2026.
The team’s outstanding performance saw KAF emerge as one of the competition’s top performers, securing the Best KDF Formation Trophy, Best Team Overall (Ride With The Warriors 2026), Best Military Team (Ride With The Warriors 2026), R-Teams Male Winner Trophy and the R-Teams Second Runner-Up Trophy.
Receiving the trophies, Major General Waliaula commended the cyclists for exemplifying the professionalism, determination and fighting spirit that define the Kenya Air Force. He noted that success in competitive sport mirrors the same discipline, commitment and teamwork required to accomplish military missions. “These achievements demonstrate what can be accomplished through discipline, commitment and teamwork. Continue striving for excellence and proudly fly the Kenya Air Force flag in every competition you participate in,” said the Commander.
The recognition underscored the Kenya Air Force’s continued investment in sport as a force multiplier that enhances physical preparedness, strengthens esprit de corps and reinforces the culture of excellence expected of military personnel. By celebrating outstanding performances, the Service continues to motivate its members to pursue distinction while maintaining the fitness and resilience essential for operational effectiveness.
