The inauguration of the Kolowa Sub-County Office in Baringo County marks another step in the Government’s broader strategy of consolidating peace by bringing public services closer to communities. Beyond expanding administrative presence, the new office is expected to improve service delivery, strengthen government coordination and support ongoing security and development programmes across the North Rift.
The occasion brought together national and county leaders from Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana and West Pokot, demonstrating a coordinated approach to addressing the region’s security, governance and socio-economic priorities. Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Governors, Members of Parliament, County Commissioners, chiefs, representatives of the Multi-Agency Security Team and members of the public participated in the event, highlighting the importance of collaboration across all levels of government.
Following the inauguration, Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Soipan Tuya and Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen led a peace baraza to evaluate the prevailing security situation and review the gains realised through sustained peacebuilding efforts. The leaders acknowledged the notable improvement in security across the region and emphasized the need to preserve the progress made through continued dialogue, stronger inter-community relations and programmes that create lasting socio-economic opportunities for local populations.
The discussions also focused on emerging humanitarian concerns, particularly the delayed onset of the rainy season and its potential effects on food security, livestock production and household livelihoods. Leaders called for coordinated interventions that combine humanitarian assistance with long-term resilience-building measures to cushion vulnerable communities against the anticipated effects of drought.
Participants reaffirmed their support for the ongoing work of the Multi-Agency Security Team, whose integrated operations have contributed significantly to restoring stability across the North Rift. They also underscored the importance of sustaining the voluntary disarmament programme alongside continued collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, local leadership and communities to safeguard the gains already achieved.
The establishment of the Kolowa Sub-County Office illustrates how strengthened government presence, effective security coordination and inclusive community engagement can reinforce one another to create a more secure and prosperous region.
