The strength of any mission is reflected not only in its operational success, but also in the positive impact it leaves on the communities it serves.
Through sustained Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities, military personnel continue to build trust, address humanitarian needs and strengthen partnerships that contribute to lasting peace and stability.
Medical personnel under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Sector II conducted medical outreach camps in Dhobley and Kismayo, providing much needed healthcare services to local residents while reinforcing the mission’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities within its area of responsibility.
The medical camps brought together military healthcare professionals and local health stakeholders to offer free medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment and the distribution of essential medicines to hundreds of patients.
Special attention was given to vulnerable groups, including women, children and the elderly, who received treatment for common illnesses and health conditions.
Beyond delivering medical care, the outreach created an opportunity for meaningful interaction between the mission personnel and the local population. The engagements enabled residents to raise health concerns, receive preventive health education and strengthen their confidence in the partnership between the mission and the community.
The activities formed part of AUSSOM Sector II’s broader Civil Military Cooperation programme aimed at supporting local institutions and improving the quality of life for the people of Jubaland. By complementing existing healthcare services, the medical camps helped bridge critical gaps while promoting goodwill and mutual understanding.
Such initiatives continue to demonstrate that sustainable peace is built through collaboration, compassion and shared responsibility. Through consistent engagement with local communities, AUSSOM Sector II remains committed to supporting humanitarian efforts that strengthen resilience, foster trust and contribute to a secure and stable Somalia.
