In communities affected by years of conflict and limited access to essential services, peace is strengthened not only through security operations but also through practical interventions that improve everyday lives.
It was against this backdrop that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel from Tabda Temporary Operating Base, serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), conducted a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity in Tabda Town, bringing medical care and essential support closer to the local community.
The outreach provided hundreds of residents with medical consultations and treatment for various health conditions. For many beneficiaries, the exercise offered an opportunity to access essential healthcare services within their community while engaging directly with the personnel supporting security and stability in the area.
At the local community dispensary, the team also installed shelves to improve the orderly storage of medical drugs and enhance the facility’s ability to provide healthcare services. Though modest in scope, the intervention addressed a practical need within the facility and is expected to contribute to a more organised and efficient working environment.
The activity demonstrated the broader value of CIMIC engagements in peace support operations, where building confidence between security forces and local communities is as important as maintaining security. KDF personnel continue to create avenues for dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding with local residents.
