Building trust with local communities remains an essential component of sustaining security and stability in operational areas. Through continuous engagement and support to civilian populations, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops continue to strengthen cooperation with local communities while reinforcing collective security efforts.
KDF personnel from Beles Qooqani area, operating under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), conducted a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) and Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity in Beles Qooqani Town.
As part of the outreach, troops conducted a medical camp during which residents received medical attention and treatment for various common ailments. The team also distributed clean drinking water to several households and Qooqani Primary School, contributing to improved access to essential services within the community.
The engagement further brought together local administration officials and Jubaland Security Forces (JSF) leadership to deliberate on the prevailing security situation, particularly the increased Al-Shabaab activities within the sub-sector. Discussions emphasised the importance of strengthened security coordination, timely intelligence gathering and sharing, sustained operational presence and effective control of key entry and exit points.
The engagements reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation between security actors and local leadership in addressing emerging threats and maintaining stability within the area of responsibility.
The activities reflected KDF’s continued commitment to supporting community welfare and promoting a secure environment in Somalia.
