JCSC PARTICIPANTS VISIT THE KENYA AIR FORCE HEADQUARTERS

On 22 January 2026, participants and staff of the Senior Joint Command and Staff Course from the Joint Command and Staff College conducted an official visit to the Kenya Air Force Headquarters in Eastleigh as part of their academic and professional development programme.

The delegation, led by the Commandant JCSC, Major General Eric Kinuthia, paid a courtesy call on the Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, who warmly received them and underscored the importance of such engagements in preparing officers for future command and staff responsibilities.

The aim of the visit was to familiarise the course participants, drawn from the three Services of the Kenya Defence Forces and allied countries, with the organisation, roles, functions and operational capabilities of the Kenya Air Force in the execution of its constitutional mandate of safeguarding Kenya’s airspace and supporting joint and combined operations.
Addressing the participants, Major General Waliaula highlighted the central role of air power in modern warfare and joint operations.

“The Kenya Air Force remains a critical component of national defence and joint operations, and engagements such as this are essential in shaping well informed commanders and staff officers capable of operating in complex security environments,” he said.

The Commander further emphasised the evolving nature of warfare and the need for adaptive leadership.
“Today’s security landscape is dynamic and demands officers who understand air power integration, joint planning and the application of technology in achieving mission success,” stated Major General Waliaula.

During an interactive session, the Commander Kenya Air Force responded to questions from the participants on contemporary warfare dynamics, air power employment and inter service cooperation, providing valuable insights drawn from operational experience. The visit reinforced the importance of joint training and interoperability among the Services and partner nations in enhancing regional security and collective defence.
Major General Kinuthia expressed gratitude to the Commander Kenya Air Force and noted that the visit had achieved its objectives, as the course participants gained valuable insights into Kenya Air Force operations.

Also present during the visit were the Base Commander Moi Air Base, Brigadier Herbert Wafula, the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor JCSC, Brigadier David Chesire, JCSC Heads of Departments, Directing Staff and other senior officers from the Kenya Air Force who participated in the engagement and discussions with the visiting delegation.
