SENIOR JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE VISITS OLKARIA GEOTHERMAL POWER STATION

On Friday 3 October 2025, students and Directing Staff of the Senior Joint Command and Staff Course, SJCSC 41-2025/26, visited the Olkaria Geothermal Project Station in Naivasha, Nakuru County, for an educational tour. The visit was led by Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor Brigadier David Chesire. He was accompanied by Head of Writing Team, Colonel Benjamin Kiprop.

The Deputy Commandant and team was warmly welcomed by KenGen officials, headed by Dr. Anna Mwangi, Assistant Manager of Geophysics.

Dr. Anna Mwangi briefed the delegation on the station’s operations, its role as a critical national infrastructure and KenGen’s future plans to meet Kenya’s growing energy needs. The students also participated in a guided tour, exploring key facilities and installations such as geothermal spa, production wells, steam turbine generator (Power Plants), the view points and the drilling rig.

In his remarks, the Deputy Commandant appreciated KenGen’s approval of the visit to its facility and the readiness to inform the middle level command course participants on the critical role of sufficient energy to national development and regional stability.

The visit offered valuable insights into energy security, infrastructure protection and strategic resource management, providing students with practical knowledge essential to contemporary defence strategies.
