KDF COMMANDER TAKES OVER SECTOR WEST IN MINUSCA

A landmark moment has been realized for Kenya Defence Forces contribution to global Peace Keeping by having the first Flag Officer, Brigadier Joseph Douglas Mokwena, as a Sector Commander in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central Africa Republic (MINUSCA).

This is a historic entry to MINUSCA Senior leadership and Command. The deployment of Brigadier Mokwena represents not only Kenya’s growing commitment to international peace and security but also deepening Kenya’s presence within one of the United Nations Missions Globally and in particularly in our Continent, Africa. Previously, Kenya deployed only Military Observers (MILOBS) and Military Staff Officers (MSO) in MINUSCA.

Upon his appointment, the Senior Officer recently paid a courtesy call and a familiarization tour to MINUSCA Force Commander, Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, at the Force Headquarters in Bangui, CAR, before taking over as commander MINUSCA Sector West with the sector Headquarters at BOUAR, CAR. Brig Mokwena now Commands contigents from Bangladesh, Tanzania, Cameroon and the Peru Engr Company, Senegal QRF, Bangladesh Med Lev II Hosp and Bangladesh Aviation Dettachment.

The United Nations and the MINUSCA leadership expressed appreciation of Kenya’s contribution, highlighting that such participation strengthens MINUSCAs Impartiality, effectiveness and representation of global peacekeeping values.

The presence of a Kenyan Senior Officer at MINUSCA carries the aspiration of a Nation that has consistently championed peace and stability across the Africa Continent and beyond. Kenya’s presence in MINUSCA senior leadership not only enhances the Mission’s operational diversity but also continues to pave the way for broader Kenya’s engagement in Africa and global peace efforts.
