Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) recently conducted a humanitarian outreach in Afmadhow Township, Somalia.
In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, KDF troops donated assorted food items to members of the local Muslim community at Al Hikma Afmadhow Primary School. The food packages included essential supplies intended to support families during the fasting period.
Speaking during the event, KDF Muslim leaders emphasized that such acts of charity and compassion reaffirm KDF’s and AUSSOM’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and dignity of the communities they serve. They noted that the initiative was designed to support local families during the sacred season characterized by fasting, prayer, reflection, and generosity. They further encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the spirit of solidarity and mutual support that defines the holy month.
The humanitarian support was warmly received by residents of Afmadhow Township. On behalf of the community, Sheikh Saila expressed sincere gratitude for the gesture, commending AUSSOM–KDF for their continued support to the people of Afmadhow. He noted that such acts of solidarity strengthen the bond between the troops and the local community.
Sheikh Saila also conveyed appreciation for the security and stability maintained by AUSSOM troops in the area, noting that the improved security environment has enabled residents to peacefully observe their religious traditions during Ramadan and carry out their daily activities without fear.
Through such initiatives, AUSSOM–KDF troops continue to support the implementation of the AUSSOM mandate while strengthening relations with the local community. The outreach also provided an opportunity for troops to engage with residents, particularly vulnerable families, while reinforcing the values of compassion, unity, and peaceful coexistence between the military and the civilian population in the region.
