Every successful institution begins by equipping its workforce with the knowledge, values and skills required to deliver on its mandate. At the Ministry of Defence (MoD), induction is more than an orientation exercise, it is a strategic investment in developing a professional, ethical and competent civilian workforce capable of effectively supporting the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in fulfilling their constitutional mandate of defending and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya.
By introducing newly recruited civilian staff to the Ministry’s culture, systems, values and operational expectations from the outset, the induction programme lays a strong foundation for professionalism, accountability, teamwork and excellence in public service.
The Department of Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) conducted a two-day induction programme for newly recruited civilian staff at Machakos from 6th to 7th August 2026. The programme was designed to familiarize participants with the Ministry’s mandate, organizational structure, policies, procedures and code of conduct, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support the Kenya Defence Forces in safeguarding the nation.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Secretary Administration, Mr. Isaac Masinde, congratulated the staff on their appointment and officially welcomed them to the Ministry of Defence family. He described the induction as the beginning of a rewarding journey of professional growth and dedicated public service, urging the officers to uphold the Ministry’s core values of integrity, discipline, professionalism and patriotism throughout their careers.
Mr. Masinde encouraged the newly recruited staff to appreciate the unique working environment within the Ministry by familiarizing themselves with the regulations, procedures and standards that guide the execution of their respective duties. He emphasized that commitment, adaptability, continuous learning and teamwork are essential qualities for effective service delivery.
He further underscored the importance of close collaboration between civilian personnel and members of the Kenya Defence Forces, noting that the Ministry’s success depends on the seamless integration of both civilian and military personnel in delivering its constitutional mandate of defending and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya.
The newly inducted staff comprised professionals drawn from various specialized cadres, including lecturers, medical officers, statisticians, ICT officers, finance officers and drivers, reflecting the diverse expertise required to support the Ministry’s operations.
The induction programme underscores the Ministry of Defence’s unwavering commitment to investing in its human capital by ensuring that newly recruited personnel are well equipped to deliver quality public service while enhancing the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Kenya Defence Forces.
