BUILDING WARRIOR CONFIDENCE AND READINESS THROUGH SPORT

Sports remain a key pillar in military training, playing a vital role in strengthening esprit de corps, building self-esteem and self-confidence, providing a platform for talent identification and development and nurturing the competitive and warrior spirit essential in military service.

In line with these training objectives, the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) successfully conducted a divisional sports competition designed to enhance physical fitness, teamwork and mental resilience in preparation for the demands of military service.

The competition provided recruits with an opportunity to test their abilities across various sporting disciplines while fostering unity, camaraderie and mutual trust among the divisions as well as sharpen their fighting spirit, enhance confidence in their capabilities and demonstrate their potential both individually and collectively.

As part of the broader training objectives, the sporting phase also served as a platform for talent identification and development, enabling instructors and commanders to recognise exceptional abilities that can be nurtured further within the Kenya Defence Forces.

In support of environmental conservation efforts, recruits planted more than 70,000 seedlings an initiative that reaffirmed DFRTS’ commitment to environmental sustainability while instilling responsibility and stewardship among the recruits.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Commandant DFRTS Colonel Denis Obiero underscored the vital role of sports in military training, noting that such activities are instrumental in producing physically fit, disciplined and resilient soldiers ready to serve the nation. He commended the recruits for successfully completing the competition without injuries and praised officers, instructors, team managers and support staff for ensuring the success of the event.
