Strengthening awareness around cervical cancer is particularly important in promoting timely screening and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health.
Lang’ata Garrison has launched a Cervical Cancer Screening and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Awareness Campaign aimed at increasing access to screening services, strengthening health education and promoting early detection among the military community.
The initiative brings together screening and sensitisation services, providing officers, service members and their dependants with an opportunity to access preventive healthcare while gaining a better understanding of cervical cancer, associated risk factors and available preventive measures.
Speaking during the launch, the Garrison leadership encouraged eligible members of the Defence community to take advantage of the screening and sensitisation services, emphasising the importance of proactive health-seeking behaviour in safeguarding individual and family well-being.
Health personnel further highlighted the value of regular screening in identifying potential health concerns at an early stage, enabling timely medical intervention and improving health outcomes. Participants were also sensitised on HPV, its association with cervical cancer and the importance of appropriate preventive healthcare measures.
Beyond providing direct medical services, the campaign seeks to address misconceptions surrounding reproductive health and encourage open, informed conversations about cervical cancer prevention. Enhanced awareness is expected to empower military families to prioritise routine health evaluations and seek professional medical care when necessary.
