The Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral church over the weekend reverberated with hymns and prayers as members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) from across the Kenya Defence Forces gathered for their annual apostolate Eucharistic celebration and commissioning of new members’ mass at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.
The mass presided over by the Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, the Bishop of the military ordinariate of Kenya commenced with a solemn procession as CWA members arrived in their attire, many adorned with Catholic-themed accessories that reflected the depth of their devotion.
In his homily, the Bishop spoke on themes of service, perseverance, and hope central to association mission. He urged the women to remain steadfast in their faith while remaining actively engaged in efforts that foster development and positive change in society.
“We are called to be instruments of service, bearing witness through perseverance and hope,” he told the congregation. Let us stay rooted in faith and commit to practical acts that improve the lives of others.”
Rt. Rev. Ng’ang’a commended the dedication of the women, highlighting how their service extends beyond liturgical duties to support families, promote social justice, and strengthen unity and cohesion within the community.
The Bishop additionally emphasized the vital role of Catholic women in fostering moral and spiritual growth within the military community. He spoke on themes of unity, sacrifice, and Christian motherhood, drawing parallels between the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the commitment shown by CWA members. He reiterated the need for the members to always strive to be a source of hope in their families, constantly speaking to the hearts of their children and husbands.
The bishop congratulated the newly commissioned members, urging them to live by the dictates of the oath of commissioning, and show commitment to activities of the church.
The annual Eucharistic celebration and commissioning had over 178 members drawn from different deaneries of the Kenya Defence Forces.
As they look forward to future programs, retreats, and community development efforts, the CWA remains steadfast in its mission: “To serve, to pray, and to uphold the dignity of Catholic womanhood within the Church and society.”
