CDF CHAIRS DEFMIS BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

CDF CHAIRS DEFMIS BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, chaired the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS) Board of Trustees meeting on 5 March 2026 in Mombasa County.

The meeting reviewed the scheme’s progress and governance, including the Annual Report and Financial Statements. The Board also deliberated on the scheme’s investment policy as well as the actuarial and audit reports.

DEFMIS is a post-retirement medical insurance scheme designed to provide healthcare cover for members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and their dependants after retirement. The scheme was established in recognition that government-provided healthcare for service members ceases upon retirement. Additionally, many retirees become more vulnerable to age-related health conditions, while the rising cost of medical care poses a significant financial burden.

Those in attendance included the Defence Principal Secretary, Dr Patrick Mariru; Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter; Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula; Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno; and the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Personnel and Logistics), Major General David Rugendo. Also present were senior officers from the Defence Headquarters and other key stakeholders.
