CDF HOSTS INDIAN DELEGATION

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, hosted a delegation from India during a courtesy call at the Defence Headquarters. The delegation was led by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy, and H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya.

The engagement reaffirmed the enduring and cordial defence relations between Kenya and India, anchored on shared values and mutual strategic interests. Discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership, enhancing collective security within the Indian Ocean Region, and expanding cooperation in joint training, exercises, and defence industry collaboration. Both sides reiterated their commitment to promoting regional stability, maritime security, and capacity building through sustained bilateral engagement.

The meeting also explored practical areas of collaboration, including joint maritime initiatives, security training programmes, and coordinated efforts to address emerging threats within the maritime domain.

Following the discussions, the delegation witnessed the signing of an Implementing Arrangement for the donation of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the Kenya Defence Forces. The MRI machine will be installed at the Kenya Navy Hospital in Mombasa, enhancing diagnostic capacity and supporting the delivery of timely, accurate, and specialised medical care to service personnel.

The agreement was signed by the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, and H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika on behalf of the Government of India. The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening military medical capability and deepening bilateral cooperation, representing a strategic investment in the health, resilience, and operational readiness of KDF personnel.

Present during the signing ceremony were Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan; Major General Edward Rugendo, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Personnel and Logistics); Major General Frederick Leuria, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training); and other senior military officers from both countries.
