CDF VISITS GILGIL MILITARY BASES AND INSTALLATIONS, INSPECTS KEY FACILITIES

The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 12 March 2026 conducted an official visit to military bases and installations in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

The visit formed part of the CDF’s routine engagements with officers and service members, aimed at assessing operational readiness, personnel welfare, and the progress of ongoing modernization projects within the camps.

The visit began at the Defence Forces Production and Packaging Factory (DFPPF), where the CDF received a briefing on the facility’s role in supporting the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) through the local production and packaging of essential supplies. General Kahariri commended the management for their commitment to enhancing self-reliance and efficiency in logistical support.

During the tour, the CDF also inspected the site of a modern housing project currently under construction for military personnel at both Kenyatta Barracks and Gilgil Treatment Industries (GTI). The initiative is part of the KDF leadership’s broader commitment to improving the living conditions and welfare of service personnel and their families.

General Kahariri later proceeded to 5 Kenya Rifles, where he interacted with officers and service members and received updates on operational readiness, training, and unit welfare initiatives. He commended the troops for their dedication and professionalism in safeguarding the nation.

While at Kenyatta Barracks, the CDF laid wreaths in honour of fallen heroes who served the nation with dedication and sacrifice. He emphasized the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by fallen soldiers, noting that their courage and commitment continue to inspire those currently serving in the defence and security sectors.

The visit culminated in a baraza at 66 Artillery Battalion, where the CDF addressed the troops. During the engagement, he praised the soldiers for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to remain steadfast in their constitutional mandate of safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He affirmed that continued improvement of infrastructure and modernization of military facilities remain key priorities in enhancing operational readiness and the welfare of service personnel.

The visit underscored the Kenya Defence Forces’ continued focus on operational preparedness, personnel welfare, and institutional development across its formations.

Also present during the visit were the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter; the General Officer Commanding West Command, Major General Jeff Nyagah; the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General Edward Rugendo; among other senior officers.
