Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, presided over the official flag-off ceremony of fully repaired field ambulances and vehicles converted into operational technical vehicles at Kahawa Garrison on Tuesday, 03 March 2026.

The event marked the successful completion of the Special Repair and Technical Conversion Programme launched in November 2025. The programme has restored multiple platforms to full operational status, significantly enhancing tactical mobility and battlefield medical support capabilities.

In his address, Lt Gen Ketter lauded the professionalism, innovation and dedication demonstrated by KDF personnel in executing the complex refurbishment and conversion works within stipulated timelines and to the required operational standards.

“This flag-off is a testament to our technical expertise, resilience and commitment to self-reliance in sustaining combat power. These platforms will directly enhance our operational readiness and force protection capability,” he stated.

The converted technical vehicles have undergone comprehensive automotive restoration, structural reinforcement and integration of mission-specific fittings. The refurbished ambulances have been re-equipped with modern medical apparatus, life-saving kits and upgraded support systems to ensure effective tactical medical evacuation and frontline stabilisation.

The Commander underscored that the successful completion of the programme demonstrates the Kenya Army’s capability to modernise its fleet through in-house capacity, thereby reducing downtime and optimising resource utilisation.

The flag off marks a significant milestone in strengthening the Kenya Army operational capability and enhancing mission readiness by ensuring that personnel are equipped with reliable, mission-fit platforms and tools necessary to execute their duties effectively.
